Referee Application

All potential referees MUST complete the online application in order to be considered to serve as an official referee.

The Organizing Committee is now accepting online applications for the 12th Annual U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang (July28-29, 2023).

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS:  You are responsible for your own travel arrangements to Colorado Springs, CO.  You should arrive no later than 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 27, 2023.  You can depart on Sunday, July 30, 2023. (Please Note: If you fly into Denver International Airport, you will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the airport.)

HOTEL ARRANGEMENTS:  Your hotel room will be provided with another referee (2 referees per room) at Hilton Garden Inn (125 N. Cascade Ave.  Colo Spgs, CO, 80903) from Thursday, July 27 through Saturday, July 29.   If you would like to arrive earlier or stay later, the Organizing Committee can assist you in reserving a hotel room at the group rate.  However, the cost of the hotel will be your own responsibility.  If you prefer to have your own room you will be responsible for half of the room cost.

MEALS: You will be provided dinner on Thursday, July 27.  You will be provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday July 28 and  Saturday, July 29.  Any other meals are the referees’ personal responsibility.

PER DIEM: The U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang is not financially supported by any National or International Governing body and operates on a limited budget.  There will be a per diem paid based off rank and any additional USAT/WT certifications.  Please Note: dan levels for the purposes of per diem will be based on Kukkiwon Dan certification only.

FORMAL DINNER BANQUET
:  You will be invited to the VIP Formal Dinner Banquet on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the Antlers Hotel. It is a formal-plated dinner at $50 per person. Referees do not have to pay. There will also be a cash bar available.  This event is formal attire.  Gentlemen must wear a jacket and tie.  Women must wear gowns or cocktail dress.  Referees can invite guests but the meal ticket will have to be purchased.  To purchase an additional ticket, please click here.

REFEREE TRAINING:  All appointed referees will be required to review training videos in advance of the in-person training.  Attendance is MANDATORY for the Referee Course on Thursday, July 27 scheduled from 1:00-5:00 PM at Ed Robson Arena (room to be announced). Please wear a uniform (dobok).

COMPETITION:  Referees cannot participate as an athlete in the U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang.

AGE MINIMUM:  17 is the age minimum.

SAFESPORT: The Organizing Committee is committed to providing a physically and emotionally safe environment for all athletes, parents, guests, Grandmasters, and Masters.  Upon appointment as an official referee, each referee will be required to take an abbreviated Safesport training.  Each referee does have the option to take the full Safesport course/certification at the cost of the Organizing Committee. If you have previously received Safesport certification you can email a copy of your current certification to avoid taking the Safesport certification.

REFEREE UNIFORM

  1. Black Slacks
  2. Black Suit Jacket (Kukkiwon International Certified Referees may wear their light blue IR suit jacket)
  3. White Button Up Shirt (Short-Sleeve or Long-Sleeve)
  4. White Taekwondo Shoes
  5. An official U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang necktie will be provided.

INTERNATIONAL REFEREES: All appointed international referees will be provided an official invitation letter for submission of a U.S. Visa.  Upon receipt of the U.S. Visa, referees are required to send a copy to [email protected]

APPOINTED REFEREE REQUIREMENT

The organizing committee will provide approval or denial of your referee application with two (2) weeks of receipt of the application.  Upon notification of appointment as an official referee for the U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang, the appointed referee must email their confirmed travel arrangements to [email protected] no later than Sunday, June 11, 2023.

If the travel confirmation deadline passes, the appointed referee will forfeit the opportunity to referee, and a different referee will be selected.

Deadline to apply for referee is Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
